Monstera dubia | Shingle Monstera
Fresh cutting as seen in the photo. Each cutting is selected with the necessary stem, node, rhizome, or growth mass required for propagation.
Monstera dubia is a distinctive climbing aroid prized for its unique shingling growth habit, attractive juvenile foliage, and ability to closely adhere to vertical surfaces. Its compact patterned leaves and dramatic transformation as it matures make it a favorite among aroid collectors and an eye-catching addition to terrariums, vivariums, and indoor tropical plant collections.
Mature Size: Vines can exceed 6–10+ ft (1.8–3+ m) indoors with proper support, with foliage increasing in size and potentially developing fenestrations as the plant matures and climbs.
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Rarity: Uncommon ⭐⭐
Plant Care
Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates medium light conditions but develops its best foliage under brighter indirect light.
Water: Water when the top 1–2 in. (2.5–5 cm) of soil feels dry, or keep the mounting surface lightly moist if grown as a shingling plant.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (60%+).
Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C).
Soil: Well-draining aroid mix rich in organic matter or mount on cork, wood, or another suitable climbing surface.
Propagation
Monstera dubia is readily propagated from stem cuttings containing at least one node. Place cuttings in water, sphagnum moss, or a well-draining substrate until roots develop, then pot into an aroid mix or mount onto a suitable climbing surface.
