Marcgravia aff. umbellata 'Red'

Fresh cutting as seen in the photo. Each cutting is selected with the necessary stem, node, rhizome, or growth mass required for propagation.

Marcgravia aff. umbellata 'Red' is a distinctive shingling tropical vine prized for its pink to red new growth, attractive veining, and tight climbing habit. Its compact juvenile foliage, colorful new leaves, and appreciation for warm, humid conditions make it a favorite among terrarium enthusiasts and an excellent addition to vivariums and indoor tropical plant collections.

Mature Size: Vines can exceed 3–6+ ft (0.9–1.8+ m) with proper support, though juvenile foliage remains small and compact when maintained in terrarium conditions.

Difficulty: Moderate

Rarity: Rare ⭐⭐⭐

Plant Care

Light: Bright, indirect light; brighter indirect light may encourage stronger red to pink coloration, but avoid harsh direct sun.

Water: Keep the substrate or mounting surface consistently moist but never waterlogged.

Humidity: Prefers high humidity (70%+).

Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C).

Soil: Well-draining, moisture-retentive mix rich in organic matter, or mount on cork, wood, Hygrolon, EpiWeb, or another suitable humid surface with sphagnum moss.

Propagation

Marcgravia aff. umbellata 'Red' is readily propagated from stem cuttings containing at least one node. Place cuttings flat on moist sphagnum moss or a well-draining propagation mix until roots and new growth develop, or attach them to a humid mounted surface until established.
