Marcgravia sp. 'El Coca'

Fresh cutting as seen in the photo. Each cutting is selected with the necessary stem, node, rhizome, or growth mass required for propagation.

Marcgravia sp. 'El Coca' is a distinctive shingling tropical vine prized for its dark red to maroon foliage, satin-like sheen, and tight climbing habit. Its dramatic coloration, compact growth pattern, and appreciation for high humidity make it a favorite among terrarium enthusiasts and an exceptional addition to vivariums and indoor tropical plant collections.

Mature Size: Vines can exceed 3–6+ ft (0.9–1.8+ m) with proper support, though juvenile foliage remains compact when maintained in terrarium conditions.

Difficulty: Moderate

Rarity: Very Rare ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Plant Care

Light: Bright, indirect light; brighter indirect light may encourage stronger red to maroon coloration, but avoid harsh direct sun.

Water: Keep the substrate or mounting surface consistently moist but never waterlogged.

Humidity: Prefers high humidity (70%+).

Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C).

Soil: Well-draining, moisture-retentive mix rich in organic matter, or mount on cork, wood, Hygrolon, EpiWeb, or another suitable humid surface with sphagnum moss.

Propagation

Marcgravia sp. 'El Coca' is readily propagated from stem cuttings containing at least one node. Place cuttings flat on moist sphagnum moss or a well-draining propagation mix until roots and new growth develop, or attach them to a humid mounted surface until established.
