Dischidia ruscifolia 'Variegata' | Variegated Million Hearts
Fresh cutting as seen in the photo. Each cutting is selected with the necessary stem, node, rhizome, or growth mass required for propagation.
Dischidia ruscifolia 'Variegata' is a charming trailing epiphytic vine prized for its small heart-shaped leaves, creamy variegation, and dense cascading growth habit. Its elegant foliage, close relationship to Hoyas, and easygoing nature make it a favorite among houseplant enthusiasts and an excellent addition to hanging baskets, mounted displays, terrariums, and indoor tropical plant collections.
Mature Size: Vines can exceed 1–3+ ft (0.3–0.9+ m) in length under ideal conditions, forming dense trailing growth over time.
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Rarity: Uncommon ⭐⭐
Plant Care
Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun, which may scorch the variegated foliage.
Water: Allow the growing medium to become slightly dry between waterings. Avoid soggy conditions, especially when grown mounted or in a small container.
Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%+).
Temperature: Prefers 65–85°F (18–29°C).
Soil: Well-draining epiphytic mix, such as orchid bark, sphagnum moss, perlite, and organic matter, or mount on cork, wood, Hygrolon, EpiWeb, or another suitable humid surface.
Propagation
Dischidia ruscifolia 'Variegata' is readily propagated from stem cuttings containing at least one node. Because it is a cultivated variegated form, propagation by cuttings preserves the characteristics of the parent plant, though variegation may vary from cutting to cutting. Place cuttings in moist sphagnum moss, water, or a well-draining propagation mix until roots develop, then pot into an epiphytic mix or attach to a suitable mounted surface.
