Begonia 'Peridot'

Fresh cutting as seen in the photo. Each cutting is selected with the necessary stem, node, rhizome, or growth mass required for propagation.

Begonia 'Peridot' is a miniature cultivated Begonia hybrid prized for its small olive-toned foliage, silver markings, red to maroon stems, and compact rhizomatous growth habit. Its jewel-like appearance, manageable size, and appreciation for warm, humid conditions make it a favorite among terrarium enthusiasts and an excellent addition to vivariums and indoor tropical plant collections.

Mature Size: Typically reaches 3–6 in. (7.5–15 cm) tall and wide, with leaves generally staying small and compact under terrarium conditions.

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Rarity: Uncommon ⭐⭐

Plant Care

Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun.

Water: Keep the substrate lightly moist but never waterlogged, allowing slight drying between waterings.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (60%+), with good airflow.

Temperature: Prefers 65–80°F (18–27°C).

Soil: Well-draining, moisture-retentive mix rich in organic matter.

Propagation

Begonia 'Peridot' is readily propagated from rhizome, stem, or leaf cuttings. Because it is a cultivated hybrid, propagation by vegetative methods preserves the distinctive compact growth habit, foliage markings, and stem coloration of the parent plant. Place cuttings in moist sphagnum moss or a well-draining propagation mix until roots and new growth develop.
