Fresh cutting as seen in the photo. Each cutting is selected with the necessary stem, node, rhizome, or growth mass required for propagation.

Begonia microsperma x Begonia prismatocarpa is a charming miniature Begonia hybrid known as Begonia 'Buttercup'. It is prized for its bright green, textured foliage, compact mounding growth habit, and cheerful yellow flowers. Its small size, ornamental leaves, and appreciation for warm, humid conditions make it a favorite among terrarium enthusiasts and an excellent addition to vivariums and indoor tropical plant collections.

Mature Size: Typically reaches 4–6 in. (10–15 cm) tall and wide, making it well suited for terrariums and small planted displays.

Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

Rarity: Uncommon ⭐⭐

Plant Care

Light: Bright, indirect light; avoid direct sun.

Water: Keep the substrate lightly moist but never waterlogged, allowing slight drying between waterings.

Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (60%+), with good airflow.

Temperature: Prefers 65–80°F (18–27°C).

Soil: Well-draining, moisture-retentive mix rich in organic matter.

Propagation

Begonia 'Buttercup' is readily propagated from stem or leaf cuttings. Because it is a cultivated hybrid, propagation by vegetative methods preserves the distinctive compact growth habit, foliage texture, and flowering characteristics of the parent plant. Place cuttings in moist sphagnum moss or a well-draining propagation mix until roots and new growth develop.
