Armadillo officinalis ‘Greece’ – Hissing Isopods
Armadillo officinalis ‘Greece’ is a large Mediterranean isopod known for its heavily armored body, near-perfect conglobation, and unusual ability to produce a faint hissing or rattling sound when disturbed.
This locality originates from Greece and typically displays natural shades of slate gray, brown, and charcoal. The defensive sound is produced by rapidly rubbing its legs against the inside of its exoskeleton while rolled into a ball.
Its substantial size, unusual behavior, manageable care requirements, and prehistoric appearance make it an excellent choice for collectors, display colonies, and suitable bioactive terrariums.
